Plastic Bag on Paper, 2022
Description :
Plastic Bag on Paper examines the contradiction between environmental awareness and the everyday systems of consumption we continue to participate in. The drawing isolates a disposable plastic bag carrying the recycling symbol, an image that simultaneously promises responsibility and embodies waste. By meticulously rendering a mass-produced, temporary object in graphite on paper, the work creates another material tension: paper and plastic, degradability and persistence, representation and reality. The recycling symbol becomes quietly ironic, questioning whether labeling something as recyclable actually resolves the larger habits of convenience, consumption, and disposal that produced it. Through this simple object, the work reflects on how easily environmental responsibility can become a symbol we display rather than a behavior we practice.
