A Horrible Holiday, 2022
Description :
A Horrible Holiday transforms the familiar umbrella from an object of protection into an image of contradiction. Turned upside down, the umbrella can no longer perform its expected function; instead of shielding the body from rain, it becomes a vessel that collects what it was designed to repel. A small salt shaker placed beside it introduces humor while evoking the familiar expression of adding salt to a wound, suggesting how an already difficult situation can be made unnecessarily worse. Through this absurd pairing, the drawing reflects on moments when expectations of comfort, escape, or pleasure collapse into frustration. The title extends this irony: a holiday promises relief from everyday pressures, yet circumstances can quickly reverse that promise, turning protection into exposure and pleasure into discomfort.
