Tire-d, 2022
Description :
Tire-d merges a tire with the face of a clock to reflect on exhaustion produced by constant movement and the pressure of time. A tire is designed to keep moving forward, while a clock continuously measures the time in which that movement occurs. Here, however, the tire appears deflated and the clock has lost its hands, creating a moment in which both movement and time seem to stop. The detached clock hands lying beneath the form suggest a temporary breakdown of measurement, routine, and productivity. Through the wordplay of the title, Tire-d uses humor to question a culture in which being constantly occupied is associated with progress, asking what happens when the body can no longer maintain the speed demanded of it.
