Trust Personified, 2021
Description :
Trust Personified emerged from my observations of bicycle racks on the streets of New York, where people temporarily secure something valuable to an anonymous metal structure and walk away with the expectation that it will remain protected. I began to see these racks as an extended human hand, transforming an ordinary piece of urban infrastructure into a metaphor for the people to whom we entrust parts of our lives. The oversized open palm carries chains, wires, and locks, objects normally associated with restriction and security, but here they represent relationships built through dependence, responsibility, and mutual belief. To place something valuable in another person's hands is both an act of vulnerability and an acknowledgment of their capacity to protect it. The work explores this paradox within trust: surrendering control can create vulnerability, yet that same surrender can produce connection, responsibility, and strength.
