The Pawn reflects on my own journey through uncertainty, struggle, and gradual growth. The staircase represents the difficulties encountered when entering unfamiliar territory, where the first step often demands the greatest courage. As the stairs ascend, they gradually widen, suggesting how experience expands one’s capacity to think, adapt, and navigate challenges that once seemed overwhelming. At the summit stands a pawn, the most modest and seemingly powerless piece on a chessboard, yet one capable of moving forward and eventually transforming into something far more powerful. I use the pawn as a metaphor for the ordinary individual whose position does not determine their potential. The work considers progress not as an immediate rise to power, but as a process built through persistence, adaptation, and the willingness to continue moving forward one step at a time.
