Towards Comfort Zone, 2021

Description :

Towards Comfort Zone reflects on my deliberate decision to limit comfort in order to remain focused on my artistic practice after moving to the United States. Rather than pursuing the convenience and lifestyle associated with living in New York City, I chose a more affordable neighboring area, conscious of the financial investment my father had already made in my education and my responsibility to make that opportunity meaningful. Constructed from individual pieces of wood with different lengths, surfaces, and tones, the sculpture resembles an architectural structure that is stable yet intentionally unresolved. The compact lower form suggests shelter and security, while the irregular elements extending upward resist complete comfort and resolution. The work considers the comfort zone not simply as a place of ease, but as something we continuously negotiate, suggesting that a certain degree of discomfort can become a productive force for discipline, adaptation, and growth.
