The Dilemma, 2022

Description :

The Dilemma explores the internal conflict that emerges when consequential decisions place emotion and reason in opposition. Whether choosing a career, marriage, migration, or another life-altering direction, the heart and mind can pull the individual toward contradictory conclusions. The simplified human bust becomes a psychological landscape, while two distinct lines of metal fasteners divide and reconnect the wooden body, suggesting competing systems of thought held within a single self. Staples imply an attempt to repair, contain, or hold together what has been divided, while brass nails establish a contrasting line that is more deliberate and ordered. Rather than resolving the conflict, the sculpture preserves the tension between instinct and logic, proposing that uncertainty is not simply an obstacle to decision-making but an integral part of how we construct our identities and determine the direction of our lives.
