Key Personified, 2022

Information :

Key Personified merges the form of a key with my own side profile, transforming an everyday object of access into a self-portrait. After moving to the United States, the key took on a different meaning for me. What had once been an ordinary object associated with opening and locking a door became connected to independence, responsibility, security, and the challenge of establishing a place for myself in an unfamiliar environment. By embedding my profile directly into the key, I position myself simultaneously as the person searching for access and the instrument capable of creating it. The dense, restless graphite marks surrounding the figure evoke the uncertainty and psychological pressure of navigating a new social and cultural environment, while the key remains sharply defined within that turbulence. The work reflects a shift in perspective: rather than waiting for a door to open, I began to understand that adaptation, persistence, and experience could make me the key to my own possibilities.
