The Golden Gutter, 2024

Description :

The Golden Gutter transforms the human ear into a urinal, drawing from the colloquial expression “peeing in someone’s ear” (कान में मूतना) as a metaphor for gossip, manipulation, and the circulation of meaningless information. Carved from white marble and fitted with a brass drain, the work deliberately gives permanence and material value to something socially disposable. The ear becomes both a receptacle and a waste system, suggesting how easily the mind can become occupied by rumors, unsolicited opinions, and other people’s negativity. The contrast between precious materials and a crude bodily reference introduces humor while questioning why we give so much attention and value to information that ultimately deserves to be discarded. The Golden Gutter proposes listening as a form of selection: not everything that enters the ear needs to remain with us.
