Ji-Mail, 2023

Description :

Ji-Mail combines the familiar form of an envelope with the arms of a pair of eyeglasses, turning an object of private communication into something that can also be “seen.” The title plays on Gmail while “Ji” introduces a subtle linguistic and cultural shift, connecting contemporary digital communication with a more personal mode of address. By merging mail with vision, the drawing reflects on how communication today is rarely simply exchanged; it is read, observed, interpreted, filtered, and sometimes monitored. The surreal hybrid uses humor to question privacy and the changing boundaries between personal correspondence and systems of digital visibility.
