Super Cord, 2023
Super Cord :
Super Cord transforms an industrial elastic manufactured in my father’s factory into the image of a human spinal cord, connecting the body’s system of support to a larger system of labor and livelihood. The factory employs around forty workers, making this seemingly ordinary material part of the economic structure that supports more than forty families. Just as the spinal cord is essential to the body’s ability to function, the continuous length of elastic becomes a metaphor for the interconnected network of workers, families, production, and dependence that sustains a community. Its capacity to stretch and withstand tension further reflects the pressures and adaptability embedded in working life, while the unbroken printed spine suggests that behind every manufactured object exists an often invisible human infrastructure holding many lives together.
