A Landscape of Portrait approaches the self-portrait as a psychological terrain rather than simply a representation of physical appearance. With the eyes closed and the face rendered through dense accumulations of graphite marks, the work shifts attention from looking outward to observing inward. The beard, skin, hair, and body become varied textures within a single landscape, allowing the human form to operate almost like geography. By merging portraiture with the idea of landscape, the drawing reflects on introspection, solitude, and the layers of experience that accumulate within the self, suggesting that an individual can contain a territory as complex and continually changing as the world around them.
