The Culture Clock, 2020
Description :
The Culture Clock brings together tea and coffee cups as markers of two different cultural rhythms. Drawing from my transition from India to the United States, the work contrasts the social ritual of sitting together over tea with the speed and mobility associated with coffee culture. By stacking one vessel upon the other, the drawing reflects on cultural adaptation without suggesting that one way of living must replace another. Instead, it considers how inherited habits become a foundation from which we negotiate new environments, routines, and ideas of belonging.
