Work In/Work out I, 2025
Description :
Work In / Work Out I? makes visible the often-unrecognized labor of listening. The sculpture transforms ears into weight-bearing elements, treating emotional attention as something that carries a physical load. We rarely count listening as work, yet holding space for another person requires patience, attention, and emotional endurance. By borrowing the visual language of exercise and weight training, the work gives measurable form to an effort that normally remains invisible. The title plays between working “in” and working “out,” questioning why physical exertion is readily recognized as labor while the quieter work of listening, care, and emotional support often goes unacknowledged.
