Rorschach Test, 2025
Description :
Rorschach Test merges the human spine with the silhouette of a liquor bottle, bringing bodily structure and psychological vulnerability into a single image. The spine, responsible for keeping the body upright, becomes a metaphor for discipline, dignity, and the internal structures through which we maintain control. The bottle, by contrast, suggests intoxication, release, and the temporary suspension of that control.
The title references the psychological Rorschach test, shifting the work from a straightforward commentary on alcohol toward a question of perception and self-recognition. What appears to be contained inside the bottle is not liquor, but the very structure that holds us together. Alcohol therefore becomes less the subject than a metaphor for the forces that test our stability, exposing impulses, vulnerabilities, and behaviors that ordinarily remain concealed.
Rendered in graphite directly onto plywood, Rorschach Test asks what happens when the structures we depend upon are placed under pressure. Rather than prescribing an answer, the work returns the question to the viewer: What holds us upright, and what does it take to make that structure bend?
