Towards Equilibrium, 2021
Description :
Towards Equilibrium emerged from thinking about a small, habitual gesture: the impulse to touch or clean the ear even when there is nothing to remove. The action is unnecessary yet strangely satisfying, producing a momentary physical sensation that can make the body feel reset or balanced.
I connect this sensation to my experience of pursuing my MFA in the United States. Entering a different cultural and artistic environment challenged many of the assumptions and rigid ways of thinking I had developed through my earlier training. The experience did not erase what I already knew, but stretched and reshaped it, allowing different perspectives to coexist.
The sculpture transforms this idea into an elongated, continuous form whose two unequal ends are held in a delicate visual balance. Its polished stainless-steel surface gives an intimate bodily reference an almost clinical precision. Towards Equilibrium ultimately considers balance not as a fixed or symmetrical state, but as an ongoing process of adjustment, where exposure to unfamiliar experiences gradually alters how we think, respond, and position ourselves.
