Vulnerable Power

Contemporary Charmer is an ongoing series of sculptures exploring the immigrant experience's complexities through symbolic transformation. Originating from a drawing of the same name, the series reimagines neckties—emblems of authority and professionalism—as cobras, invoking themes of power, deceit, and vulnerability. This visual metaphor draws on my own experiences with legal representation, reflecting the often fraught dynamics between immigrants and those who claim to advocate for them. Each sculpture embodies a personal or community narrative, revealing how identity, aspiration, and trust are shaped—and sometimes compromised—within systems of power.
