Everyday Alchemy: The Rituals and Residue of Daily Life, 2025

Tuiwala’s work dissects and reassembles familiar objects to form satirical narratives that question social constructs and the complexities of identity and migration. By juxtaposing figuration and abstraction, Tuiwala aims to create spaces that invite contemplation and empathy, bridging the gap between the everyday and the profound. Everyday Alchemy is a sculptural investigation into the subtle transformations that define lived experience. It explores how routine gestures, domestic objects, and inherited beliefs reveal the invisible labor of survival, adaptation, and self-making. These works elevate the ordinary to the philosophical by casting everyday items in unexpected materials such as marble, bronze, soap, dollar bills, and butter. Through this process, the series examines the tension between function and symbolism, permanence and erosion, ritual and resistance.
