Clothed Eye, 2024

Description :

Clothed Eye examines how social structures shape not only the way we present ourselves, but also the way we perceive the world. A shirt collar, associated with professionalism, respectability, and conformity, is draped across an eye, turning something normally worn on the body into a barrier to vision. The gesture suggests that the identities and expectations we adopt can gradually become filters through which reality is understood. By obscuring rather than completely covering the eye, the work points to a subtler form of blindness: we continue to look, but what we see is conditioned by the systems we participate in. The contrast of white and black marble gives permanence to this tension between appearance and perception, asking whether the structures that help us belong may also prevent us from seeing beyond them.
