Dirt Under the Nail, 2019
Description :
Dirt Under the Nail monumentalizes an ordinary bodily detail that is usually cleaned, concealed, or dismissed. A large thumb carved from black marble carries a small brass element beneath its nail, transforming dirt into something deliberately emphasized and valuable. Through this reversal, the work uses humor and exaggeration to reflect on individuality, imperfection, and the pressure to present ourselves according to accepted standards. What is normally removed becomes the very detail that distinguishes the individual.
