A Horrible Holiday, 2025
Description :
A Horrible Holiday transforms the umbrella, an object associated with protection from unpredictable weather, into a metaphor for how we seek shelter during difficult periods of life. The work extends the idea first explored in the drawing, translating the familiar object into a permanent sculptural form.
One side of the umbrella carries the texture of leaves, connecting manufactured shelter with the instinctive act of seeking shade beneath a tree. This convergence of umbrella and foliage suggests that when circumstances become overwhelming, we instinctively search for something that can protect us, whether a place, person, belief, or temporary retreat. Yet an umbrella cannot change the weather; it can only help us endure it. The work uses this distinction to reflect on protection, vulnerability, and the temporary forms of support we construct while passing through difficult conditions.
