In Protected From Each Other, Two umbrellas face one another, transforming familiar objects of shelter into opposing structures. The space between them becomes both protected and divided, suggesting how mechanisms designed for safety can also produce distance. The drawing became an early exploration of the relationship between protection and boundaries that later developed into the sculpture The Boundaries.
