Not in My Hand, 2020

Description :

Not in My Hand explores the tension between personal agency and forces beyond our control. A tightly closed fist suggests determination and the desire to hold onto control, while lines extending beyond the hand evoke hastarekha, or palm lines traditionally associated with destiny. The work draws from cultural beliefs around fate and free will, questioning how much of life can actually be shaped through individual effort. It reflects on the uneasy space between striving to construct one’s own path and accepting the circumstances that remain outside one’s control.
